Eva Peron: Fierce Historical Lady?

Many moons ago, boleyns requested that I write a Fierce Historical Ladies post about Eva Peron. I was really excited to begin my research, because I didn’t know much about Eva Peron. But as the months went by, and as I typed up crappy post after crappy post, I began to realize that I was approaching the subject incorrectly.

In general, I am hesitant to analyze anything that happened after World War II in a historical manner because I believe that not enough time has gone by for us to truly be able to discuss their impact, or true nature.

Eva Peron (neé Duarte) was born in 1919, and died in 1952, so she fits squarely into the “too recent to analyze” category. So, I don’t feel that I can analyze her impact, legacy, or fierceness until I look at her in terms of context and response: the context in which she was active, and then manner in which the people around her responded to her.

I think that, through that lens, we will be able to get a good look at the person she was, and begin to formulate guesses as to her character and continuing impact. Because of this approach, and because of the large amount of information I have to discuss in the course of this approach, this will not be a ~traditional~ Fierce Historical Lady post.

Because there is a lot of material involved in this, I’m going divide this post up into four separate posts; one on the background and context in which Eva is being discussed, one on Eva’s life and career, one on her continuing impact after her death, and a concluding post in which we will determine whether or not she can be categorized as an FHL.

And then I will spend the next month trying to figure out how to get Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina out of my head.
