Shameless moment of using this blog to my personal advantage

For those of you who are undergrads at universities large enough to have TAs, what do you like and what don’t you like in a TA—especially in discussion centered section meetings?

  1. andreisarb answered: What’s a TA?…
  2. darth-hera answered: Make sure you know what the professor is doing in lecture! Lack of communication between TAs and professors is extremely frustrating
  3. delarouse answered: when the TA’s are terrified and barely can teach bc they’re so scared. No offense and its human to be nervous, but I lose interest with that
  4. assoftas answered: I don’t like it when they repond to questions with overly complicated answers. I like it when they email discussion questions in advance.
  5. danceburrito answered: We only had TA’s for language classes, which is the only time I think its acceptable.
  6. gardant answered: Even if the material bores you, act like it’s the highlight of your week. It makes discussion feel more like socializing.
  7. melancholytimelord answered: I had a TA once who was very condescending and dismissive. Be supportive of your students, even if you think they’re obnoxious or stupid.
  8. tiptoetempest said: I despise the fact that I often don’t get additional credit for taking more hours (through discussion). And it is very frustrating to have a TA with a heavy accent.
  9. tiptoetempest answered: I like the smaller class size, the fact that I can develop my own opinion by voicing it and hearing that of others.
  10. elytra answered: I dislike when a TA focuses time on getting the dumb, uninterested kids to talk and cuts me off. It’s like being punished for being a nerd.
  11. compassesandkeys answered: I do like when a TA talks to the students and will listen to them.
  12. diddleston answered: I hate when the TA refuses to admit that they don’t know what they’re talking about.
